Water Wars May Lurk in the Future (December 2005)
"AFTER oil, water is the commodity most likely to spark wars in the future, says Richard Hopkins, the chief executive of a new higher education centre in Adelaide. Now Operational (August 2005)
ICE WaRM, trading as WaterEd Australia has fulfilled its legal and administrative obligations for establishment and is now a fully operational business entity. The Centre’s founding agreements with participating shareholders and supporters have been completed with all scheduled capital contributions in hand. The organisational framework of the Centre is ‘ready to go’ and is able to continue building its network of partners and associates in both national and international contexts. It is encouraging interested water-related education, training and research institutions and individuals to achieve their goals through ICE WaRM programmes.
New Programmes (August 2005)
From 2006, candidates for Australian-based studies will be able to choose from a range of new postgraduate Certificate, Diploma and Master programmes in Water Resources Management. The Centre’s non-award short courses and training series are tailored for interest and industry groups throughout the year.
Research Umbrella (August 2005)
ICE WaRM can offer support as an umbrella for researchers, existing research groups and institutions seeking the benefits and involvement of an independent, multiple-stakeholder legal framework to aid the progression of their research projects and proposals.
Networks (August 2005)
ICE WaRM is continuing contact with a number of national and international individuals and institutions to draw together a strong international network of water-related interest and expertise. ICE WaRM is also continuing discussions with potential partners and affiliates about ways in which they can become involved. Interested organisations are encouraged to initiate contact with ICE WaRM by emailing mail@icewarm.com.au.
International Delegations (August 2005)
ICE WaRM has been happy to host a visit from a Chinese delegation of senior Water Industry officials in November 2005. The delegation visited irrgation sites in Loxton, and were welcomed by a tour of the site by Central Irrigation Trust. The delegation was also given a presentation directed at their specific area's of interest, being irrigation, water saving and water management techniques from SA Water, DWLBC, Sentek, ARRIS and Water Industry Alliance. ICE WaRM is looking forward to the next delegation from Indonesia arriving late November from WASPOLA.
