Scholarships, Visits and Exchanges (February 17, 2006)

ICE WaRM is pleased to announce a number of student postgraduate scholarships and staff international visits and exchanges for 2006. The scholarships, visits and exchanges are an integral part of ICE WaRM's International Liaison Programme which aims to facilitate the international exchange of skills, knowledge, research and experience in water resources management. This first round of postgraduate scholarships is open to 'mid-year intake' applicants for the new Master of Water Resources Management Programme offered through ICE WaRM's partner universities. ICE WaRM Reaches Out to SE Asia (February 17, 2006)

ICE WaRM CEO Richard Hopkins and Marketing and Communications Manager Ian Whyte will fly to China and Hong Kong next week to hold preliminary meetings with local water institutions representatives. Agenda items include potential collaboration in areas of education, research and training in water resources management. It is anticipated the China and Hong Kong trip will be as successful as an earlier visit to Indonesia last month for discussions with the Australian Education International (AEI), the Australian Education Centre (AEC), Indonesian Government Institutions and major development agencies active in the water sector in Indonesia.

ICE WaRM Welcomes New Board Member (February 17, 2006)

ICE WaRM is pleased to announce the January appointment of new Director Mike Terlet AO to the WaterEd Board. Mike replaces Andrew Fletcher who resigned in December last year to accept a new role as CEO of the Port Adelaide Maritime Corporation. Currently the Chairman of United Water International Pty Ltd and the Water Industry Alliance, Mike is a prominent figure in the business sector in South Australia. Until his retirement in 1992, he was managing director of the Defence and Aerospace Company. Since then, he has served as President of the South Australian Employers Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Engineering Employers Association and has undertaken a number of directorships in both public and private companies. Appointed an officer of the General Order of Australia in 1991 for contributions to industry and export, Mike brings to ICE WaRM a wealth of knowledge and experience in international trading and investement, and the Centre looks forward to further growth under his leadership.

Masters Programme Now Available (February 2006)

The nested Master of Water Resources Management Programme is now available for enrolment. Developed and delivered by ICE WaRM's partner universities, the 18 month full-time Masters Programme provides students with the opportunity to undertake specialised streams offered at the partner institutions to suit their interests and career aspirations in the water resources management industry. The programme which incorporates the Graduate Certificate (6 months full-time) and Graduate Diploma (12 months full-time), is the first of ICE WaRM's flagship education products. ICE WaRM Wins Collaborative Teaming Award (May 2006)

ICE WaRM has been recognised with the coveted Water Industry Alliance award, in the Collaborative Teaming category. The Collaborative Teaming award recognises ICE WaRM for facilitating the development of collaborative activity within the water industry, in bringing together a team of five of Australia’s leading universities to offer a new and uniquely flexible range of postgraduate programmes in water resource management. Through the newly developed nested Masters programme in Water Resources Management, the universities work together to not only offer a cohesive academic and administrative structure for a cross-institutional programme, but also to channel each independent university’s core expertise in water into a common Masters level degree through the offering of ‘specialised streaming’. Through the collaborative efforts of ICE WaRM and its partners, delivery of the graduate programme began in February this year, with a second intake beginning July 2006. ICE WaRM is honoured to have been presented with the award, and would like to acknowledge the collaborative efforts of its partner universities, various supporters and associates, as well as the Water Industry Alliance.

ICE WaRM Appoints New Chairman and Deputy Chairman (July 2006)

ICE WaRM is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Mike Terlet AO, as the new Chairman of the WaterEd Board of Directors, and Dr Jane Gilmour as Deputy Chair. Mr Terlet replaces Professor John Lovering AO, who retired as Chairman of the Board in June after being significantly involved with ICE WaRM since the conceptual stage of the organisation in 2003. Mr Terlet brings a wealth of experience to the Chairman’s role, having undertaken a number of directorships in both private and public companies. He is currently also Chairman for United Water International, as well as the Water Industry Alliance. Until recently, Dr Gilmour was Executive Director of Earthwatch Institute – Australia, a position she held for 13 years. She is a Councillor of RMIT University, and a member of various other government, industry and education sector committees. Dr Gilmour was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2003, for her commitment and service to the environment. ICE WaRM welcomes Mr Terlet and Dr Gilmour to their respective positions, and looks forward to further growth under its new leadership structure.


ICE WaRM Welcomes New Board Member (July 2006)

ICE WaRM welcomes Mr John Scanlon to the WaterEd Board of Directors. Currently Australia’s first independent Commissioner on the Murray Darling Basin Commission, Mr Scanlon has gained experience in over 25 different countries, in the private sector, in government as well as with inter-governmental organisations. His unique range of experience in leading and managing organisational change and corporate governance reform, and in shaping strategic thinking on sustainable development policy, governance, law and institutions, will be of great benefit to ICE WaRM.
