ICE WaRM Consolidates Mekong Links

The links between ICE WaRM and the Mekong River Commission have been further strengthened following a visit by Chief Executive Officer Richard Hopkins and International Partnerships Manager Mike Seager late in 2008.

International Job Vacancies Now on ICE WaRM Site

A new International Employment section is now included on the ICE WaRM web site, linking water resources organisations with a wider range of skilled professionals.

The listed vacancies are with the Mekong River Commission (MRC), which was established in 1995 by the governments of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, with P R China and Myanmar serving as dialogue partners.

Indian Water Resources Ministry Visit

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) team in New Delhi engaged ICE WaRM to host a delegation of very senior Indian Government officials for a technical study tour of water resources policies and management in Australia late in 2008.

Peter Moss joined ICE WaRM in January 2009 as a Project Coordinator for the coordination and administration of education programmes in water resources management.

Applications Open for New Water Planning Stream

The new Water Planning specialist stream of the nested Master programme offered by ICE WaRM’s partner universities commences from the start of the 2009 academic year.

Developed in association with the National Water Commission, the intent is to encourage skills development of Australian water planners, initially to Graduate Diploma level. The complementary Scholarship scheme offers financial assistance to eligible students.

Applications Open for AU-EU Exchange Programme

Applications are now open for the new Australia-Europe exchange programme, giving 90 students the opportunity to further their water-related studies overseas.

Through funding from the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, up to 45 students from ICE WaRM’s partner universities can apply to study for five months at one of three leading European universities.

ICE WaRM and partners are scheduling a series of public short courses in water resources management throughout 2009.

The public short course programme covers a wide range of issues –including such diverse subjects as water trading, the public health implications of drinking water, hydrology and hydraulics and river surveys.
