Dates: 29 July – 27 August 2011

Number of Fellows: 22

Country(s) of origin: Burma, Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Thailand, Vietnam

The goal of the Professional Development Programme (PDP) was to contribute to meeting the long term developmental needs of the basin and particularly the need for sustainable and equitable management of water resources throughout the Subregion. Its aim was to contribute both to overall Mekong River Commission (MRC) goals and those of its Strategic Plans, through direct support of MRC’s current AusAID-supported Integrated Capacity Building programme (ICBP), and to those of individual countries. ICBP’s overall objective is to develop a critical mass of human resources within all concerned organisations of MRC member countries, including Government Line Agencies, non-State or parastatal actors such as universities and research agencies, and the National Mekong Committees (NMCs). The PDP was highly successful in all areas by supporting learning of new knowledge and skills, sharing of practices, development of skills and establishing networks.
