Online Course: Groundwater Modelling with MODFLOW-OWHM, FREEWAT and Farm Process

A deeper look into modelling with MODFLOW and it's related programs and plugins.

MODFLOW is a free software that allows users to model the groundwater flow. Developed by the U.S. Geological Survey, the program is used by hydrogeologists to simulate the flow of groundwater through aquifers. The second course in our MODFLOW series will explore just some of the programs created to work within MODFLOW, including MODFLOW-OWHM, FREEWAT and the Farm Process.

Follow along with the instructor Wolfgang Schmid, a researcher with 20 years of MODFLOW modelling experience, to understand and create groundwater models using MODFLOW in our 2 live and interactive sessions of 2 hours over two weeks:
Thursday, 12th March, 12:00pm (Sydney Time)
Thursday, 19th March, 12.00pm (Sydney Time)

Date: Thursday, 12 March 2020 - Thursday, 19 March 2020

Time: 12:00pm (Australia/Sydney; find your local time)

Cost: AUD$295 (about $200 US dollars)

  • The course is delivered by the learning platform and online video classroom
  • 2 live and interactive sessions of 2 hours over two weeks
    • Thursday, 12 March, 12:00pm (Sydney Time)
    • Thursday, 19 March, 12:00pm (Sydney Time)
    • Sessions are recorded & uploaded to the learning platform (within 24hrs after session), if you cannot attend live.
  • Pre-and-post-course materials to read through via the learning platform.
  • Exercises via training manual between the 2 week’s live sessions.

Preparation: Pre-course reading and video watching is encouraged. There is also an opportunity to tailor the sessions to your direct questions via the initial survey. After the first week you will be given some exercises to complete, prior to the next session.

Requirements: A good internet connection and MODFLOW plus additional plugins.

Content: This course consists of interactive training – our Instructor will step you through the building of a groundwater flow model using MODFLOW. You will then run, animate, interpret and troubleshoot your model.

Outcome: On completion of the course attendees will be issued with a Certificate of Participation.
