ICE WaRM Forges Strong Link in Japan
Thursday, 23 July, 2009
ICE WaRM is taking on a leading support role for the Japan-based Institute for Global Environment Strategies (IGES), which carries out innovative strategic policy research to support sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
ICE WaRM will focus on providing expertise in freshwater and groundwater policies, complementing the existing team at IGES, and support in education and training programmes in groundwater. The move follows the June decision of the Asia-Pacific Water Forum to make IGES the regional Knowledge Hub for groundwater, taking a leading role in groundwater management and working to protect groundwater resources and ensure their equitable and sustainable use in Asia and the Pacific region.
The agreement was finalised as ICE WaRM Chief Executive Officer Richard Hopkins attended the International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific in Hayama, Japan.
