Short course: Gender, Equity and Water Management

The International Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Management (ICE WaRM) and TERI University have developed a two-day programme in Gender, Equity and Water Management which will be offered for the first time on 7th and 8th November, 2016.

Gender mainstreaming has been part of the international discourse on Integrated Water Resource Management for many years. There have been several efforts and initiatives in making the water sector both more gender balanced and gender sensitive. However, critical challenges still remain to be addressed.

“This programme is part of ICE WaRM’s commitment to the development of water management in South Asia that empowers women and girls, through raising the awareness of water management institutions of the importance of considering women’s needs when developing and implementing water policies,” Dr Ian Reid, ICE WaRM’s Education Services Manager, said.

“The programme will be delivered in New Delhi by experts from South Asia and is funded by the Sustainable Development Investment Portfolio of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Government of Australia.”

Programme participants will develop a good conceptual and theoretical understanding of gender, rights and equity issues and be exposed to the practical challenges in making the water sector more gender balanced and gender sensitive. The programme also aims to build capacities of participants with respect to gender equity by suggesting practical strategies to enable them to work for sustainable and gender sensitive management of water resources.

Participants will hear from the Australian High Commissioner to India, Ms Harinder Sidhu, TERI University Vice Chancellor Dr Leena Srivastava, and Dr Vishal Narain, Associate Professor, School of Public Policy and Governance MDI, Gurgaon.

Registrations are now open on the TERI University website: http://www.teriuniversity.ac.in/gender/
